Little Black Box

Little Black Box was imagined as a home away from home for summer vacations—a place for escapes, relaxation and entertaining with extended family and friends. The brief called for spaces to retreat and unwind, and generous living areas where everyone could gather to share meals, good times and memories.

Understated in many ways, the almost brutalist façade leaves you guessing at what lies within. A single polished-render section in a delicate shade of grey offers relief from the charred black timber.

Inside, subtle textures bring warmth and whimsy to a restrained, almost minimalist palette. The natural tactility of timber softens the monochromatic interiors, inviting you to slow down and settle in.

Natural light brings these materials to life, from gentle, dappled light filtered through sheer curtains to the densely planted central light court. Light is everything in our projects. Large north-facing windows, courtyards and light courts draw it deep into the home, creating bright, happy spaces for a summer stay.
