Kingfisher

Set on a grassy knoll, with kangaroos grazing in the distance, Kingfisher looks out to the subtropical rainforest of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Completed in mid-2018, the home takes its cues from the landscape around it.

Orientation was central to the design, giving the living areas and bedrooms access to the views, cooling breezes and warm winter sun. A simple palette of colours and materials keeps the home understated, allowing the natural qualities of stone and timber to come forward.

The open-plan kitchen and living area flow into an outdoor entertaining space and pool, extending everyday life into the landscape.

Built by Mark Blinco and his team at Blinco Constructions, the home reflects the care and attention to detail of both design and construction. It received regional and state recognition before winning the National Project Home $350,000 to $500,000 category at the Master Builders National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards in November 2018.
