Findlay Residence was designed with resort living in mind: a convivial coastal retreat where the family could gather at key times of the year. A home away from home, it offers a place to leave hectic city life behind and simply unwind.

In Portsea, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, the property sits a short stroll from both the ocean and the bay. Climate and the character of the area guided the design. For the clients, it was essential that the spaces were filled with light and breathed naturally. They wanted the feeling of a holiday in some far-flung place on the other side of the world.

Multiple living spaces give family members room to retreat and enjoy some peace and quiet, a game of pool, a board game or a movie. There are also generous spaces to come together.

The central pool courtyard and entertaining terrace form the focal point of the house, facing north to capture the sun. Connected directly to the generous living area, the indoor and outdoor spaces become one. Views through the home create a sense of transparency and lightness, while expanses of operable glass invite natural light and sea breezes, drawing the coastal atmosphere into the house itself.
